My Fault

“If you want your kitten, come to Purr Island and bring the son of the Lukos traitor.” I kept playing that message over and over on Cherish phone.

“Uhm...the message is not going to change Ale,” Cherish said as she looked down at me with her arms crossed over chest. I sat at the dining room table at Vora’s house. It took me about an hour to get back here after I stormed out 4 hours ago.

Vora, Cherish, Lacy, Truffle and I were in the dining room. Everyone one was silent. I played the message that the Lukos left on Cherish’s phone. They took Fran and it was my fault.

“Ale...honey playing the message over and over is not going to get her back. We need to figure out a plan to get her,” Cherish kept talking. I was trying to listen to here but I couldn’t help but think about the message those punk Lukos left.

When Cherish called me and told me that Fran was gone I didn’t think twice about coming back. I apologize to Vora for my behavior. She apologized back and said that she was the one that should be sorry. I forgave her but I was still upset that she did not tell me that her and my father had an affair. how could he do that to my mom. I could see if they had a thing before he meet my mother but after? that was uncall for. I didn’t have time to go over the detail and I really didn’t want to. My main focus was to get Fran back.

“I know...I just...I don’t know.” I ran my finger threw my black hair that was in need of gel. It has been a day since I have became a Lukos and already I looked and smelt like a wild animal.

“Give me the phone back else you’re going to go nuts playing that message over and over again,” Cherish said. I handed her phone back to her and then I tucked my hands under my chin.

“What do we do now,” Lacy asked trying find out if anyone thought of a plan while we sat in silence.

“We’re going to Purr Island to get her,” I stated as if the idea of going to Purr Island was a no brainer.

“Going to Purr Island is not that easy,” Truffle said. Truffle is Vora friend. He is a Lukos as well but a cool one. he does not approve of Heath’s leadership. even though Heath is only half Lukos and half Cerna Kocka (black cat), and also my uncle.

“That Island has more guards than the White House. The only way we can get into Purr Island is if we knew a Cerna Kocka on the island that could be our eyes and ears.”

I know someone,” Vora said.

“Of course you do,” I stated. “So what are we waiting for?”

“Easy tiger we have to come up with a plan else we will be facing death. Especially you Ale. Kidnapping Fran was the preface plot. He has been watching you for months now. Heath knows the only way to get you was to take something you love so much and use it as bait.” truffle looked at me. I knew what he was saying was true. Heath wanted my blood so bad that he was willing to do anything to get it. If he had to lie, cheat and steal.

“So let’s come up with a plan. Vora contact the Cerna that you know on the island so that we can get an idea of what we are working with.” She nodded her head and got out of her seat. “I am also going to need a map of the island. Does anyone have one?”

“I do in my suit case,” Truffle stated as he got up to retrieve the map. If I can get a feel of how the island is structured then we can maneuver around it better. But there is only one problem...where exactly on the island did he take her?” I threw up my hands, “I don’t have time to figure out the details just now. We just needed to get everything that we need together.”

I turned to Cherish.

“Cherish I need you on weapons. We are going to need some fire power to take some of them down.” Cherish is good with handling guns and knives and things so I put her in charge of that stuff.

“I’m on it,” she said as she disappearing down the hallway.

“Lacy I need you to handle communications, so that mean walkie talkies, cell phone, bluetooth anything that we can communicate with each other in a timely manner.” She nodded her head.

“I think I can handle that,” Lacy got out of her chair and went into the living room to get her laptop. I felt it was necessary for everyone to have apart in this. Even though it looked like I had it together, I was a nervous wreck. I had so many emotions running through me. I was angry, scared, sad, and in love. I thought about Fran’s beautiful smile and her earthly sent. She smelt like pine cones and trees.

As I was thinking about Fran and all of the special times we had, Truffle broke my concentration by laying the map out on the table.

“Here you go Ale. This is the whole island included the center were Heath is staying.” I took a look at the map. The island was small and full of green on the paper.

“What is with all the green on here?”

“It’s the trees and the forest. Purr Island has a lot of vegetation. Which is the problem. If you’re not from there then you can get lost. And if an outsider is lost then someone will find them ripped in pieces for stew meat.” I wiggled my noise at the thought of being sliced up.

“Yeah, no we need a guide.”

“I contacted a friend of mine,” Vora said as she was coming down the stairs. “Her name is Napaula. She will help us get into the island and then we can stay with her. She will be our eyes and ears.” I nodded my head.

“OK that’s great. Now all we need to do is figure out how not to get lost or killed going through this island.

As truffle explained each section of the island like who lives along the shore and what to look out for just in case we run into another animal, the door bell rung.

“I’ll get it,” Cherish said as she ran to get the door.” Who could it be at this time, I though. I looked at my watch to fine that it was midnight.

“Hey thanks for coming...yeah ...no he is back...in the dining room,” I heard her muffled voice in the other room.

“Hey, Ale I’m happy your safe.” I turned around to see who it was that called my name.

“Jay? What are you doing here?”

“Cherish called me to see if I knew where you were. I said no. She sounded so sad over the phone. I wanted to help. So I borrowed my mom’s car to come over. It took me all of one hour to find this place. I almost ran off the cliff coming up the hill.” I was happy to see Jay, but I was a bit more baffled that Cherish would even call him to help. When she turned him down on the way going to Tackle Tim’s after the championship game, I didn’t think he would want anything to do with her. I guess he was hit by the love bug like I was with Fran. I don’t know what those Cerna’s do to make themselves irresistible.

I looked over at Cherish squinting my eyes at her and crossed my arms over my chest. She didn’t like Jay so I really don’t know why she called him in the first place.

“Uhmm Jay Cherish need to talk to you in the living room,” I said not taking my eyes off of her. Her eyes got wide with confusion.

“Really,”Jay said with excitement.

“Yeah just go in the living room she will be right with you,” I said glancing over at him. His eyes light up like a Christmas tree.

“OK,” he said turning to walked towards the living room area. When he was out of sight I turned towards Cherish, but before I could turn my head fully she rushed up to me hitting me on the arm. It did hurt much just a little sting.

“What are you doing pup? I don’t need to talk to him about anything,” She said in a low whisper trying not to be too loud. She peek over my shoulder to make sure he was out of sight.

“Why did you call him? It is too dangerous for him to be here.” I said matching my tone to hers.

“What was I supposed to do? I could not call your mom and say ‘hey Mrs. Calderon your son just found out that your husband was having an affair with our leader and he stormed out. You would by chance know where he is’” As soon as she said that fire in my chest began to heat back up. I closed my eye and took two deep breaths.

“Oh pup am sorry for bring that up, but you know what I mean.” I held up my left hand for her to stop talking well I had my eyes closed.

“Cherish, before something happens to Jay you need to inform him of what we are.”

“What? Why me?”

“Because you’re the one that called him, and now he is here. So it is your duty to tell him everything that is going on included the fact the you’re a “black cat”,’ I stated using my pointer and middle finger to make quotes in the air.

“He is your friend why can’t you tell him.”

“Because I am not the one he is in love with. The man would go to the moon for you. Trust me I saw it in his eyes. If you tell him to hunt and rabbit for you and kill it he might just do it because you asked him.” I heard a low rumble in her throat.

“Fine I will tell him.” She said throwing her hands in the air. Cherish walked with grace down the hall and into the next room. I shook my head and brought my attention back to viewing the map of Purr Island with Truffle.

“So I was looking at this map,” Truffle said breaking the silence in the air.

“If we come in through this entrance then we will be able to get into the main courters through the back. The real tricky question is where is Heath keeping her.” I crossed my left arm over my chest, and rested the right on it rubbed my chin as I process everything Truffle was saying.

“What about here,” I asked pointing to the brown area that was not covered in green color, “couldn’t we get in threw this way. It looks like best way to get to the back rather than going through the trees.”

“We cannot go through there. That’s main area the Lukos stay. There are not too fond of trees that’s why it is best to go through them. The Cernas are the only ones that can handle the trees. Lukos like open space,” Vora said.

“Then why do they want to take over an island that is full of greenery?’

“You might remember what I told you Ale their land is desolate. So they are not use to the greenery. Once they can completely take over I am sure the vegetation and greenery will die because they would know how to take care of it.”

I nodded my head. “I guess that make sense.” Not really but what ever.

This night gets better and better

As Vora, Truffle and I was going back and forth about different ways we could sneak up on the Lukos all of a sudden we heard a scream.

“Oh my goodness Cherish!” Vora jumped up. I closed my eyes.

“No, not Cherish…Jay!” I turned my head only to find that Jay was running towards me. He looked like he saw a ghost.

“Ale we have to get out of here!” He said out of breath. I took my eyes off of him and saw Cherish in cat form galloping down the hall way.

I sighed.

Jay held on to my arm backing away.

“Cherish would you please shift back.” She sat on her hine legs and begin licking in-between her paws.

“Cherish enough!”Vora said. She yawned and the shifted back. As she was walking.

“What…what the hell is going on here? Ale you.... know about this? Are you in on with them. Who are you all?”

“Jay calm down I will explain. I don’t think Cherish explain it well enough.” I darted my eyes at her. She shrugged her shoulders

“What!” She asked as if she did nothing wrong.

“You are a mess you know that?” Vora said shaking her head.

I hung my head down shaking it. “Cherish you was supposed to just tell him. Not scared him.”

“Wait Ale you know what’s going on,” Jay asked still looking terrified. I turned around to face him. His eye was glossy and his noise was turning red like he wanted to cry from fear.

“Jay listen to me just calm down.” He looked around at everyone. “Focus Jay. Listen to me.” I sighed. “How can I put this in a way you will understand…”

“Wait are you one of them too?” He asked backing away.

“ No…No I am not a cat…But I am a wolf.” Jay looked around the room backing away from all of us.

“Your all crazy…I am in a dream that’s it’s it I am in a dream. Wake up Jay wake up.” He kept slapping himself thinking that he was in a dream. Everyone looked at him like he was crazy.

“Jay no you are not in a dream this is for real. I need to you just stay calm and breath OK.” He grabbed his chest and began to panting real fast. “Jay are you OK.”

“I just...I just need to sit down. He reached for a chair to sit in but as soon as his arms touched it a shot when off. I turned to see who pulled trigger.

“Cherish are you crazy? You kill him. I turned to look at Jay only to find a little dart with a flower at the end stuck in his chest. He looked down at it and started to laugh. Then his eye rolled in the back of his head, and his body fell to the floor.

“I did not kill him,” Cherish said. “He is perfectly fine.” She walked around the table over to him and touched his neck.

“Then what did you do to him?” I asked.

“I gave him a sanative.”

“You druged him?

“Oh don’t be so melodramatic pup. He is just in a deep sleep.”

“Why would you do that?”

“He need something to calm his nerves. He was getting on my nerves with all his excitement.” I walked over to jay and needled down to check his pulse.

“See his is still breathing.” I did know what to say.

I sighed.

“Just take him to my room and let him lay down. How long will it be before he wakes?

“Ten hours.” Cherish answer.

“Come help me put him in the room.

“Why me?”

“Your the one that shot him. Now shut up for one in your life and help me.” She rolled her eyes.

“I will help you,” Turffle said.

“No, it’s OK.”

“No I insisted. Truffle came around the table and grabbed his legs and I grabbed his arms. First Fran is kidnapped now we have a human hostage. This night was getting better and better.

After truffle and I dragged Jay to the room I was staying in, we closed the door behind us. Truffle sighed. “I don’t think I ever had this much excitement in one night. He said as we walked down the hall together.

“Me either. Then I thought about when I got kidnap by the Lukos. “Oh no I take that back. I did have I full night and early morning of excitement when the Lukos kidnapped me and tied me up for experimental purposes.”

”Oh yeah Vora told me about that.” Truffle said nodding his head.

“But other than that night I have not had that much excitement like today. We both walked a few feet in silence down the hall. ‘

“Hey truffle can I asked you something?” I asked stopping to look at him.

“Sure you can ask me anything.”

“What is life like for you…you know being a Lukos? Have you ever felt like all you want to was to be normal?”

“Every day of my life. Living amongst the humans is very interesting. I see how they walk around without a care in the world. Like they are the only ones that matter in this world. Our purpose is to survive.

Once I go back to Purr Island to help you all retrieve Fran than I will love come back and start living normal.” He looks off down the hallway. Looking into his eyes I could tell that he has made peace with his decision.

“I know that a Lukos and Cerna Kocka are forbidden to be with each other, but why is that? I mean you should be able to fall in love with whomever no matter what kind they are.” He turned too looked at me. His jawline tighten and he squinted his eyes.

“You have your uncle Heath to thank for that. Heat is a product of a Lukos mingling with a Cerna. Heath has something twisted going on is his sick mind he is just messed up in general. Heath has the blood of both kind so of course he would be twisted. I think the fear that everyone has is that he is mixed with both kinds and no one knows what he is capable of. That’s the fear that is installed in everyone’s head.” I thought about what Truffle was saying but I could help but think about Fran. We would work out the detail of our relationship later but right now the main goal was to figure out how we was going to get her back.

As we walked down the hall to return to the living room, Vora was giving Cherish a lecture on handling fire arms and tranquilizers.

“I know Vora we have been through this conversation a million time.”

“Then why do I have to keep going over and over this with you. You are out of control. Now when he wakes up I want you to go into that room and apologized to him. He likes you Cherish and you treat him unfair.” Vora crossed her arms looking at Cherish. Cherish hung her head low because she know Vora was telling the truth. I didn’t know why Cherish was so bitter all the time. She threw her hand up in the air.

“Fine when the human wakes up I will apologize to him.”

“When Truffle and I walked into the room Vora and Cherish stop talking. Lacy was in the kitchen pouring milk into a cup.

“So Jay is out for the count. Let’s get back to the plain. Now are we going to Purr Island by plain or boat?” I looked to Vora and Truffle. Truffle looked at Vora. She clears her throat.

“Well here is the only pitfall. Heath tracks all incoming and outgoing boat and air plans. They have a radar system that tracks anything that comes close to the island.”

“How do they have all of that technology on an Island?”

“You be surprise what Heath has on that island. I will contact someone to find out when the coast is clear.

“Ok all we need to do is wait till everything is all clear before we can leave. The Lukos is all over the Island so we need to make sure that they are not around when we land. I’ll take about ten hour to get there by air.

I exhale.

“Everyone know what they are suppose to do?” I looked around the table to make sure everyone was on board with the plan. Cherish raised her hand.

“Yes Cherish,” I said giving her tired looked.

“Uhm what are we going to do with the human in the back?”

“The human in the back is my friend and he is coming with us.

“Ale do you think it would be a little dangerous for him to come,” Vora asked. I knew it would be very dangerous for Jay to come but I need him with me.

“Yes it will be but he is my friend and he could help out a whole lot.” No on argued with me.

“OK it’s settled. Vora keep use up dated on what time we are going to leave. in the mean time Cherish and Lacy you guys pack up and get everything that we need. Truffle keep working on that map to fine us an entrance to Heaths main house. Everyone got it?” Everyone looked round and nodded. “Good. I am going to step out for a minute.”

“Ale be careful and don’t go far.”

“I won’t I will just be outside.”

As ever one deliberated going about doing the task I gave them I left out of the house to get some fresh air. It was the darkest hour of the night which means it was about three in the morning. I sat on the stairs looking up at the sky. The stars where bright and the air was crisp and clean. I inhaled deep letting the clean air full my lungs. Then I exhaled all of the air trying to let the stress out with it. I wanted to cry as emotions over took me.

“I don’t know what I am doing,” I said to myself. I looked down at my hands as clear liquid form my eyes began to full them. I felt even more alone now because Fran wasn’t there. It was my entire fault. I keep blaming myself for her kidnapping. I should have just stayed and this would not have happen. Then a voice spoke in my head. If you would have stay and none of this would have happen you would not be able to full fill your destiny. I looked around. What is that? I though. “Sorry, to bother you Ale. I turn around to find that Truffle was behind me.

“Oh no its OK”

“I wanted to help you strengthen your mind.”

“What do you mean?” I asked with confusion.

“The Lukos are able to communicate with one another with their minds. And I want to warn you and prepare you. Heath will try and play mind game with you so I want you to be able to with stand it.”

“Wait was that just you doing that?

“Uhmm”

“So your the one that spoke in my head on my birthday? Why did you tell me we could do that?”

“I want to see what your reach would be. I wanted to know if you would be able to handle it. It wasn’t a big deal to understand and know until now at this very moment. You are going on an island that your ancestors come from. You need to know the basics else they are going to think you’re a joke.”

“They are going to think I am a joke anyway rescuing a Cerna Kocka.” I said all I want to do is get Fran, kill heath and get out of there. I did not need to do any campaign to win the Lukos votes. I am not trying to be came president.

“That maybe so but you still need to keep your mind strong.”

“Can we read each other’s mind?” I asked hope that I could use the mind reading thing to my advantage.

“No we can only speak into each other minds.”

“Oh...well that’s no fun.” He laughed.

“Speaking to someone’s mind is more powerful than reading it.”

Truffle and I talked for a little while longer. He was telling me how it is very important for me to keep my mine clear and focus at all time.

Lock and Load

After he and I talk for a few more minutes we went inside to see what the status was on Purr Island. Vora was gliding down the hall when we came inside. I have great news. She said, “Heaths charter plane has left the island so if we want to get there before he come back we need to get a move on it.”

“You think he took Fran with him?” Cherish asked while carrying a black duffle bag.

“No, I have someone spying on him at the moment. They only saw him get on the plan. Which lets me know that he have her hiding somewhere.

“Where do you think he is going?” I asked think that he know something is already up.

“I am not sure Ale. He could be coming for you.” I thought about it for a moment. If he wants me to come to him then why is he leaving? Something did not add up, but hey I was new at this. Truffle and Vora are the professionals.

“All right. Everyone get everything we need and lest load up the cars. Cherish?”

“Yes, she answer while she was caring the weapons.”

“I need you to go in the room and wake up Jay so we can get a move on it.” Her shoulders slumped down dropping the bags in her arm and few inches from the ground. She was going ready to open her mouth and say something back to me, but she shrugged her shoulders and said, “fine.”

Cherish threw the bag in the entrance of the doorway and walked down the hall towards the room where Jay was.

I really hated to drag Jay into this but since he was already here I thought maybe he would do us some good. I probable was going to regret this decision later.

While everyone was scatter around I went into the kitchen to get me something to drink. Truffle was in there with a silver brief case that was open. It was black in the inside and had silver syringes in its own socket.

“Wow what’s that?” I asked getting closer so that I could get a better look.

“This is what is going to kill Heath.” I examined the device that was in his hand.

“Uhm Truffle how is it going to kill him? There is nothing in it.”

“I know. There is a special liquid that is going to go inside of the syringe.”

“Oh cool what?” I asked looking at the object with intense.

“Your blood.”I swallowed hard.

“Uhmmm blood?”

“Yes. You remember. Only the blood of a...”

“Wolf can kill him. Well my blood. Yes I got that part. So what do I do just run up to him and stick it in his chest or something?” I asked taking a gulp of my water I had.

“No you’re going to shoot him with this...” Truffle grabbed under the table and pulled out a small silver gun.

“You see her,” he said pointing at the top of the gun. “This here is the latch. You take one and connect it to the top of this.” He took one of the syrings and locked it in place to demonstrate. I nod my head.

“Nice!”

“Not bad huh? Now all we need is to fill these up.” He pause to look at me and then to my arm. I looked at him, suddenly I felt sick.

“Oh right...you want to do that now?”

“Yes Ale it would be nice to go ahead and have them ready. When we get to Purr Island we will not have enough time to play laboratory.” He chuckled to himself.

“Okkkay” I was a little heisted at first. I didn’t know if this man was certified to draw blood.

I sat my cup down and rolled up the sleeve to my arm. He started laughing.

“Oh no I am not going to be the one to do this. Vora!” He called. Relief came over me as a waiting for her to come into the room. I didn’t mind Vora drawing blood from me, but then again could I really trust her after what happen yesterday?

“Oh goody we are going to draw Ale’s blood.”

“Oh goody? You sound too happy about doing this.”

“Ale I just want this over with. I want Heath dead. Then we can go on with our lives.”

“When and if I kill Heath are you going to movie back to Purr Island.” Vora sat there thinking about my question.

“I may go back there to help rebuild it but I don’t think I could live there anymore. Besides I like it here in the states. The weather is ...different but you get use to it. And no one is really in my business.” I just nodded at her respons.

“Now close your eyes. It will make things a lot easier.” She took a thick rubber band like strip and wrapped around my arm. “Ouch!’

“Ale I have not touched you.”

“I know I am just preparing.” Vora rolled her eyes and took one of the syringes out of its place in the suit case, then took the plastic lid off of it. I closed my eyes and looked away. I wasn’t for sure if it will hurt me or not so I braced myself. After what seemed to be about a minute I open my eyes.

“Uhm when are you going to do it?”

“I already did.” I looked in the case and all four syringes was full of blood.

“I didn’t feel anything. How did you do that so fast?” She loosen the strap from my arm.

“Vora has a special gift and a soft touch. She knows what she is doing.” Truffle answered. I looked at my arm and no signs of blood being drawn from my arm.

“Wow, cool.”

“Ale go get Cherish and Jay so that we can go over the plan on more time before we head to the airport.”

“Ok,” I said rolling my sleeve down.

As I was walking down the hall I did notice that Cherish have been in her way too long, and it was quite. Maybe she was smothering him trying to kill him. I shook the thoughts out of my head. “She wouldn’t do that.” I said to myself.

The door was cracked so I slowly opened it. As I was opening it I herd a speeded heart and heavy breathing. I opened the door a little more and there was Cherish and Jay sting on the bed... kissing!

“Oh My God! I am going to be sick!” I held my stomach wanting to throw up. Cherish and Jay pulled from each other fast. Cherish jumped up.

“It’s not what you think...well maybe it is. But it is innocent honestly.” Jay jumped out of the bed looking dazed like he had a buzz from the kiss. I crossed my arms and looked at Jay. He just struggle his shoulders looking like he was the luckiest cat in the world.

I threw my hands up.

“Whatever Vora wants us all to meet in the dining room one last time before we leave for the airport. Cherish I hope you told Jay what was going on before you seduced him with your cat nip?” She snarled at me and narrowed her eyes.

“Yes I did.” She said under her breath.

“Good Jay, are you will to go on a dangerous mission to help save Fran?” He jumped down off the bed. “I am ready to do anything to help.”

“It is very risky and you may lose your life.” I reiterated to make sure he understood the dangers involved in this mission. He nodded his head

“Awesome!”

“Don’t worry I won’t let nothing happen to you.” Cherish said as she rubbed his back to comfort any fear or doubt he may have had. Maybe she knew that he was a little sacred. I forgot she could read his mind not mine.

“Thanks,” he said blushing. They were gazing into each other’s eyes getting caught up in some moment.

“Ahem! Please I am getting sick right now. I need you two to stay focus.” “what are you taking about I am focus.”

“Is that right...where is your silver gun?” She reached in her back and pulled out her best friend. “See right here.”

“Uhmm! Just make sure it is load.” I said gesturing for her to go down the hall. She stuck her tough out at me when she walked pass. Jay followed behind her like a loss puppy looking for a new owner. When he walked pass me I placed my head on his chest for him to stop.

“Ale what’s up?”

“You know what she is right?” He though about it.

“Yes I know. And I don’t care. I think she is great.”

“Yeah Yeah Yeah...Listen If your going to be with her make sure your willing to died in order to get out the relationship. It’s kind of like...how can I put this...hum. Oh yeah,”I said snapping my fingers, “Like being in a gang. where the only way out is death!” He looked at me then down the hall. He thought about it for a few seconds and then he stared laughing uncontrollable.

“Ale your so funny.” He shook his head and started walking down the hall.

“Ok you funeral not mind, and I will not be attending it.” I close the door behind me and followed behind Jay in to the dining room where everyone was.

“Hello Jay good to see that your taking everything well.” He ran his hand threw his stringy brown hair.

“Yeah everything is a little strange but what the heck.”

“That’s good to herd,” Vora said.
